(closed) Hiring a Game Designer
EDIT: This position is now closed.
Hello – Pete here and I wanted to let you know that we’re currently hiring a game designer to join the team!
We’re quite excited about this role for a number of reasons!
[1]
Firstly, this is the first design focused role we’ve hired for. Previously it was myself focusing on the overall game’s direction with support from the rest of the team as we all refined what a game’s vision was.
At White Paper, we believe that everyone should contribute their design ideas to help craft the end vision of the game so a critical key to this role is to be able to hear from a wide range of opinions, not be blocked off from one perspective you hold, and to decipher what the correct vision for the gameplay would be and design into it.
You will also need to know how to implement your ideas in Unreal Engine. We have strong code support on our team so you wouldn’t be expected to build everything from the ground up in Blueprints, although being able to create a prototype is an important aspect to allow you to communicate your vision.
[2]
The second is that it frees up a lot of the deep work on the team to help us achieve a clearer vision on our titles.
As anyone who’s played our games before, we have large ambitions, both technically and creatively, and from a team perspective, we’ve always done a little of everything.
Ether One shipped with 6 core team members and The Occupation with 12 – as you can imagine, shipping those types of games with the respective team sizes caused everyone to wear many hats so it’s great to be able to put specific focus in many areas to really make our titles shine with refined edges.
We think this is an exciting opportunity for a design to really make their voice heard as a creator.
[3]
Lastly, I think this role will bring a new perspective to how we design and approach our games. Of course, our focus on our players and respecting your time and input in the game world to deliver your an interesting interactive experiences, but having fresh design ideas with someone’s full focus on a game’s tone, pacing and interactive aspects will help us branch out into lots more new IP
(P.S We do have a new IP currently in production that we’re super excited to share with you all… just not yet!).
How to Apply?
We’ve posted the application here, we hope you check it out or let someone else know who you think may fit the role.
Once we’ve located our new team member, we’ll also be looking for
[1] Full-time Gameplay programming support
[2] Contract animation for ~ 6 months starting in September 2020.
[3a/b] a Full-time or Part-time studio manager / communications roles – this might be two different roles or a single person with a varied interest in management and comms).
if you think you’d fit some of our other roles, please do drop us a line at jobs@whitepapergames.com.
We’re looking forward to meeting you!
